26 New York Giants players will become free agents in 2019

A year after substantial personnel turnover, the New York Giants could be in store for another substantial overhaul, although it will likely be viewed as manageable in comparison to the near 70% turnover they had in 2018.

26 current members of the Giants will become free agents in 2019, and some of the names are potentially significant to their long-term future. Look no further than Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins, who could be designated the team’s franchise player.

Here’s a quick look at all 26:

  • Safety Curtis Riley
  • Cornerback Tony Lippett
  • Tight end Scott Simonson
  • Wide receiver Bennie Fowler
  • Defensive end John Jenkins
  • Guard Jamon Brown
  • Cornerback B.W. Webb
  • Defensive end Josh Mauro
  • Linebacker Nate Stupar
  • Center/guard John Greco
  • Long-snapper Zak DeOssie
  • Wide receiver Russell Shepard
  • Defensive end Mario Edwards
  • Defensive end Kerry Wynn
  • Safety Landon Collins
  • Wide receiver Cody Latimer

Unrestricted free agents (UFA) will be free to sign with any team once the new league year begins on March 13. Prior to that, the league will open a one-week window in which teams are legally allowed to “tamper” with impending free agents.

  • Center Spencer Pulley
  • Cornerback Antonio Hamilton
  • Quarterback Alex Tanney
  • Wide receiver Corey Coleman

Restricted free agents (RFA) are eligible to receive tender tags, making them more likely to be re-signed by the Giants. If another team makes one of these players a contract offer, the Giants will also have the right to first refusal.

  • Wide receiver Alonzo Russell
  • Kicker Aldrick Rosas
  • Fullback Elijhaa Penny
  • Center Jon Halapio
  • Linebacker Jordan Williams
  • Defensive end Kristjan Sokoli

Exclusive rights free agents (ERFA) can’t sign with another team if the Giants attempt to re-sign them. They can, however, turn down the Giants’ tender offer, but then they would have to sit out for one season.

Obviously, the Giants have more than a few critical decisions that must be made on some of their impending free agents, namely Collins, Coleman, Latimer, Wynn, DeOssie, Brown and Shepard.
