49ers are interested in Giants’ WR Odell Beckham Jr. — if New York decides to move on

If the Giants decide to part ways with star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers could pursue him, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio

The 49ers considered trading for Beckham last season when the Giants appeared open to the possibility of letting him go. The wideout has five years and $74 million remaining on the long-term deal he signed last August.

Beckham missed the last four games of the 2018 season due to a quad injury. Despite only competing in 12 games, Beckham finished the year with 77 catches for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns.

The 26-year-old pledged to make 2019 the best year he’s had in his entire career after being forced to miss the Giants’ season finale against the Cowboys on Sunday. He’s expected to let his disappointment over the injury fuel his play to return stronger than ever. So it’s likely many teams will be interested in the three-time Pro Bowler if the Giants remain open to trading him.

Beckham signed a five-year extension in the offseason, but he can still be traded while clearing $16.75 million off the books, according to Florio. Trading Beckham would also cost the Giants a cap charge of $16 million.

None of San Francisco’s receivers topped 500 yards to aid tight end George Kittle’s 1,377 receiving yards this year, so the 49ers are in need of a surefire offensive playmaker.
