5 quarterbacks New York Giants could trade for to replace Eli Manning

Over the weekend, we here at Giants Wire examined the upcoming free agent market for quarterbacks and broke down a number of options the New York Giants could target if that’s ultimately the route they choose to take in replacing Eli Manning.

The results were less than stellar and the fan reaction made that abundantly clear. But that all stems from the reality of the situation the Giants currently face: there just aren’t that many quality options.

Free agency may not be the best avenue for the Giants, but perhaps the trade market is?

General manager Dave Gettleman has never been shy about pulling the trigger on a trade if he feels it will benefit the team, so maybe that will become the solution for Big Blue?

The Giants do have nine picks in the 2019 NFL Draft they could use as trade bait, so with that in mind, here are five quarterbacks they could trade for to replace Manning next season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appeared ready to move on from Jameis Winston around the NFL trade deadline, but no deal ever materialized.

Ultimately, Winston took back over for Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had lost some of his Fitzmagic, and cleaned up some of his early season issues despite going 2-6 over the second half of the regular season.

With a new head coach also incoming, it could signal the end for Winston in Tampa Bay. Or just the beginning. No one really knows at this point, but the possibility remains that the 25-year-old could soon be on the move.

The market for Winston would be an interesting one. He has flashed at times, but he’s also played really poorly at others. Additionally, he brings a seemingly endless bag of off-field drama stemming back to his college days, which could easily fracture a young locker-room and cost both he and his team games (he was suspended three games to start the 2018 season).

If the Buccaneers do eventually put Winston on the trade market, there will be interest. Limited interest, but interest nonetheless. And he probably wouldn’t cost all that much.
