The New York Giants hosted the AFC North first-place Chicago Bears who entered the Week 13 matchup with an 8-3 record boasting arguably the NFL’s best defense. Despite the odds stacked in Chicago’s favor, and in spite of just about everything that could go wrong actually going wrong, the Giants pulled out the massive morale-boosting 30-27 victory.
After the game, head coach Pat Shurmur summed up why wins like this one — against an 8-3 team with arguably the best defense — are so important for a franchise like the Giants who are going through a disappointing season.
“I’m fond of tough, resilient people,” Shurmur told reporters after the game. “When you’re trying to flip culture and build something, you have to dig deep…our guys found a way to put points on the board and get a stop.”
There were big plays made throughout the game by just about every playmaker on the Giants roster. Odell Beckham Jr. not only caught a touchdown but also threw a bomb touchdown pass. Alec Ogletree did his best impression of Beckham on an interception that ended up being his second of the game — the first of which he returned for a touchdown. Saquon Barkley ran “dirty” as Shurmur has asked him to and came up with a game-winning big gain in overtime that set up the game-winning field goal. Speaking of field goals, Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas was lights out as usual.
