Giants to work out QB Bo Levi Mitchell, a 2-time CFL champion

The New York Giants will be working out CFL quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, per a published report.

The Giants are not, apparently, satisfied with Alex Tanney as Eli Manning’s backup, and are bringing in the two-time CFL champion QB for a workout with that role in mind.

Mitchell lead the Calgary Stampeders to a pair of Grey Cups, earning the MVP in both title games — something he and Eli Manning have in common. The 28-year-old played college football in the United States, quarterbacking for SMU and Eastern Michigan before going undrafted in 2012. Likely thought too small to play in the NFL, Mitchell is undersized at 6-foot-2, 198 pounds.

That didn’t stop him from being named a CFL All-Star in 2016 and again in 2018, and was named the league’s “Most Outstanding Player” in each of those years. He also set records for most consecutive wins (14), best record for a first-year quarterback (12-1), and fastest QB to 60 wins (72 starts).

As the QB for the Stampeders, Mitchell has a record of 69-15-2, has thrown for 24,468 yards (completing 64.6 percent of his passes), and scoring 150 touchdowns to 59 interceptions.

The Giants aren’t the only team to have expressed interest in the Canadian quarterback, as he has reportedly worked out for the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars Denver Broncos and chicago Bears, with more workouts apparently to come.
