Kacy Rodgers interviewed with Giants for senior defensive position

Will former New York Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers follow Todd Bowles to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? That’s been the belief over the last 48 hours, but perhaps the brakes should be pumped on those expectations.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Rodgers interviewed with the New York Giants on Thursday for a senior defensive position, and will now decide between joining the Giants or the Buccaneers.

Rodgers served as the Jets’ defensive coordinator under Bowles from 2015-2018. Prior to that, he served as the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive tackles coach and defensive line coach from 2005-2014.

Before landing his first NFL job with the Cowboys, Rodgers bounced around college football, serving in various roles at Tennessee-Martin, Northeast Louisiana, Middle Tennessee State and Arkansas.

If Rodgers does land with the Giants, it remains unclear what specific role he would take and whether or not he’d oversee current defensive coordinator James Bettcher.
