New York Giants could play in London or Mexico City in 2019

The New York Giants finished their season in disappointing style on Sunday afternoon, allowing a late lead to slip through their fingers in a 36-35 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, which cemented them at the bottom of the NFC East and officially established their opponents for 2019.

One of those opponents, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be among five NFL teams to host an international game in 2019 in either London or Mexico City. As a result, the Giants may want to ready themselves for a potential game outside of the country.

While nothing has been determined as of yet, once the Buccaneers finished in last place in the NFC South, the Giants were immediately thrust into the conversation as a likely opponent given the star power of Odell Beckham Jr., Saquon Barkley and Landon Collins, who is a pending free agent.

If the Giants and Buccaneers are eventually slated for an international game, it will be the third time New York has taken part in the International Series.

In 2007, the Giants knocked off the Miami Dolphins, 13-10, at Wembley Stadium. They returned to London in 2016, defeating the Los Angeles Rams, 17-10, at Twickenham Stadium.

At 2-0 in the International Series, only the New England Patriots (3-0) sport a better record than the Giants. However, the Buccaneers have not experienced similar success overseas, having gone 0-2 when playing abroad.

The full NFL schedule will be released in mid- to late-April at which point we’ll know whether or not the Giants and Buccaneers are headed to London or Mexico City, or if they’ll simply be playing in Tampa Bay.
