New York Giants rise in USA TODAY power rankings despite shutout loss

The New York Giants were embarrassingly shut out in front of a nearly empty MetLife Stadium in Week 15 courtesy of the visiting Tennessee Titans. But despite that, the people at USA TODAY showed them some mercy.

While the Giants fell to 5-9 on the season and saw their playoff hopes go up in smoke, USA TODAY actually boosted the them one spot to No. 21 overall in their latest power rankings.

Going back to sophomore year at Penn State, Saquon Barkley hasn’t fumbled in 35 games. Another reason he’s got offensive ROY honors on ice.

Comparatively, the Washington Redskins stayed put at No. 25 overall despite Josh Johnson, their fourth starting quarterback this season, leading them to a last-second victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Meanwhile, with Super Bowl hero Nick Foles leading the way, the Philadelphia Eagles upset the Los Angeles Rams, which led to a four-spot bump to No. 15 overall in the power rankings.

The Dallas Cowboys weren’t as lucky, falling five spots to No. 13 overall following their shutout loss to the Indianapolis Colts, who are playing as well as anyone in football right now.

Finally, the New Orleans Saints remain in place at No. 1 overall after their Monday night win over the Carolina Panthers, while the Arizona Cardinals maintain their stranglehold on the No. 32 spot overall.
