In nearly every single mock draft since the start of the new year, the New York Giants have been projected to take a quarterback at No. 6 overall — either Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins or Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray.
However, for the first time, that trend changed late last week with the release of the latest three-round mock courtesy of our friends over at Draft Wire.
With Haskins already off the board, Draft Wire has the Giants passing on Murray in Round 1 and, instead, selecting Alabama offensive tackle Jonah Williams.
6. New York Giants
Jonah Williams | OT | Alabama
Here’s a quick snippet on what Draft Wire previously had to say about Williams:
Williams has all the makings of an elite NFL offensive lineman, regardless if he plays on the inside or outside. His technical and athletic ability, and mean streak will be something all coaches love.
While shoring up the offensive line would be an ideal move for the Giants, what would they then do about their future at the quarterback position? Well, draft the Senior Bowl MVP for the third consecutive year, that’s what.
37. New York Giants
Daniel Jones | QB | Duke
Jones would be an interesting pick for the Giants in Round 2 for a variety of reasons, including the fact that the Duke quarterback has been mentored and coached by the same man who is partially responsible for both Peyton and Eli Manning — David Cutcliffe.
How would you feel about these two picks over the first two rounds, Giants fans? Would Williams and Jones breed some optimism or would it result in remote control throwing?
