Ever since the New York Giants signed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a mega deal, many have speculated if or when safety Landon Collins would get signed to an extension of his own.
Collins was placed on injured reserve (IR) prior to the Week 13, which has led many to wonder if the safety has played his last game in Giants blue. The two-time Pro Bowler is in the final year of his rookie deal and will be highly coveted come free agency this offseason.
Collins was a guest on the Michael Kay Show for his weekly appearance on Tuesday and was asked about his injury and his pending free agency.
As far as free agency goes, Collins talked about the possibility of returning to the Giants.
“The feeling around the room, I mean, I feel like I might be a Giant upcoming next year.” Collins said and later adding “I have a gut feeling that I might still be here”
Collins also knows it’s a business and, as he later explained, he would have to be okay if it came down to him leaving Big Blue although he made it clear, he prefers to finish his career with the Giants.
The team could use the franchise tag on Collins if they see that as the best way to keep him in a Giants uniform. The franchise tag would allow Big Blue to see how well Collins returns from injury before investing in him on a long-term deal.
Collins is certainly one of, if not the best player on defense for the Giants. There have been no reports of any contract negotiations to this point, but Collins is definitely a name to watch as the Giants might try to come to an agreement before he hits free agency.
