Potential Giants draft target Dwayne Haskins dominates Rose Bowl

Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins had a fine showing at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, throwing for three scores and 251 yards on 25-of-37 passing. Haskins’ draft stock was high going into the game, a 27-23 victory for No. 6 Ohio State over No. 9 Washington.

The New York Giants have been linked to Haskins by several mock draft sites. They are in the market for a franchise quarterback, and Haskins, who has yet to declare for the 2019 NFL Draft, could be on their radar if he does.

The mock draft season is about to go into overdrive after the College Football National Championship Game next week between Alabama and Clemson, but many sites have been posting mocks for months now.

Two sites in particular, CBS Sports and our own sister site Draft Wire, are mocking Haskins to the Giants with the No. 6 overall selection in April.

“It’s long past time for the Giants to replace Eli Manning, and barring another team trading ahead of them, they should have their pick of this year’s top passers,” wrote Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling. “Haskins was my top QB prospect in this class even before Oregon’s Justin Herbert decided to return for his senior season, and he’s well worth this pick.”

“The Giants appear ready to bring Eli Manning back for another season but after Justin Herbert announced he was staying at Oregon, Haskins is the best quarterback in this class and it may not be close,” says CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson. “Manning played well in spurts in 2018 but there was more bad than good, and if the Giants decide it’s time to turn the page after 15 seasons, Haskins will have to get serious consideration.”

He will. The teams in front of the Giants — Arizona, San Francisco, the Jets, Oakland and Tampa Bay — are all likely to pass on Haskins, leaving him for the Giants to jump on.

The only hurdle could be the Oakland Raiders. If the Raiders, under new general manager Mike Mayock, feel they are going to move on from Derek Carr, they could target Haskins.
